The Peace of God At Work In Us
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27) Jesus Christ is preparing His disciples for His return to heaven. He speaks words of comfort and gives the promise of the Holy Spirit. Jesus understands how lonely and distraught they may become once He leaves them. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3)
Peace is a sense of well-being and fulfillment that comes from God and depends on His presence. While chaos is ripping through the earth, we, as born again believers, can experience a peace of mind.
When the regenerated spirit, soul and body of man are in agreement, a calming effect can overwhelm him. This means that the Lord is in charge and not you or me, which will help us make better decisions or become more productive or raise our confidence level. The Israelites were brought under the bondage of the Midianites in Judges 6 which was allowed by the Lord, because they had begun to serve the gods of the Amorites. The Lord heard their cry for deliverance from the Midianites and chose Gideon, son of Joash, to lead the Israelites into battle against the Midianites. An angel of the Lord made this announcement selection to Gideon by calling him a mighty warrior. Gideon could not believe that he was chosen for this task. He considered his tribe, Manasseh, as the weakest tribe of Israel and himself the least in his family. God will, at times, take the lowest person on the totem pole to do His great works. “And the Lord said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.” (Judges 6:23) Gideon built an altar to honor God and called the place - Jehovah-shalom (The Lord is Peace). We are whoever God says we are! “When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7)
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10) Jesus Christ is our problem solver and final decision maker in all life situations. When you depend on Him, you will have peace!
